Ian Parker
Ian Parker is a professor in the Departments of Neurobiology and Physiology at the University of California, Irvine. His research centers of the application of fluorescence microscopy techniques to study cellular calcium signaling and cell-cell interactions. Current topics include the development of 'optical patch-clamping' to image calcium flux through single channels; studies on the function, localization and motility of individual IP3 receptors; and the involvement of calcium-permeable amyloid pores in Alzheimer's disease. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2008, and remains the only Fellow to have completed the World's toughest footrace.
