Trained in Physics, did aerospace engineering, PhD in Physiology, postdoced in Hawaii and NIH, Asst. Prof in Buffalo. Fired from Pharmacology along with Craig Venter. Joined Biophysics. Now Distinguished (geezer) Professor of Biophysics. Well treated by the Institute of Serendipity and invented whole cell cardiac voltage clamp, patch recording in culture, discovered mechanosensitive ion channels, did microscopy of patches, AFM of channels, and made stress probes, and discovered a new class of drugs for MSCs.
