The biogenesis of endoplasmic reticulum(ER) tubule network requires homotypic membrane fusion. In metazoans, a transmembrane dynamin-like ER protein Atlastin(ATL) mediates the fusion of ER tubules, and its homolog in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is Sey1p.
